Kaleb’s Grove

“The City of Bounty”

“There was an old saying in North Merica; ‘Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…’ I think they were talking about places like Kaleb’s Grove. A place where we refuse to let people go hungry and that they may truly be free”. -Tillie Farside, Elder

In the wastelands, most people can respect when someone is knocked down and then gets back up. Almost everyone can agree that when an entire town does that, multiple times, you have yourself a village filled with people who are more than just zed waiting to happen. Kaleb’s Grove was originally a little farm of just one family of Quiet Folk. Everything changed for that family when a miracle happened. Well, several miracles. What those were is now myth. Blown out of proportion by the inhabitants of the town. All that is known for sure is that Kaleb, the town’s original founder, proved that the land his family had was worth living on. Quiet Folk and Tribe of Seasons members flocked from all around to settle in those prosperous lands. Kaleb’s Grove was a bread basket town and holy site of the Seasons for years to come.

Recently, trouble has brewed in the worst of ways for the town. Disease, war, doomsday cults, and finally, raiders from the Hazelands burned the city to the ground. The refugees fled their homes, and for many months, lived in tents and shacks. This was until the Well’s Society and Emberforge found a new place for them to settle just north of Emberforge. This new home is right on the river and there is talk of great fishing and farming that can be done here.

Kaleb’s Grove has a government entirely composed of elders. They make all decisions for the town as a collective. Once someone has reached the ripe age of 60, and have lived in Kaleb’s Grove for at least 30 of those years, they are invited to join the elders as a leader of the town.

Common and Rare strains

Most common: Quiet Folk, Natural Ones, and Mericans.

Least common: Tainted, Redstar, and Reclaimers.

Faiths in Kaleb’s Grove

Most common:

Tribes Of The Seasons - By far the most common faith in the area since the days of Kaleb himself. Many consider what was Kaleb’s Grove’s former home to be holy grounds to the Seasons and many wish to make their new home an even greater shrine. There has been an influx of Blighted Grove members in the town as of recent years.

Nuclear Family - Family and community are top values in Kaleb’s Grove as the Quiet Folk that inhabit it seek kinship in hard times.

Least common:

Telling Visionists - While present in the area, the Telling Visionists are often drawn to more interesting and less sleepy places to record the history of the times.

Kings and Queens Court: After the noise ordinance known as the ‘Van Halen Act’ was passed a few years ago, the KQC simply don’t want to be here for any longer than they have to.

Important People

Lily “Soul” Soulicia - The oldest, and most respected, member of the Elders, Soul is a kindhearted woman who considers all members of Kaleb’s Grove to be her ‘Grandchildren”.

Robb Geneva - While not the official leader of anything, Robb has seen his share of cycles and is seen as the best farmer in the area. Many come from all around to seek his advice on agricultural issues.

Basil Petunia Hotchetto Darnell -
A Pureblood from Steelbridge who is here to keep ‘an open line of communication’ between Steelbridge and Kaleb’s Grove. She is quite vocal about her distaste for living, as she says, ‘out in the sticks’. Many speculate that her being sent here is some kind of punishment for something that she refuses to talk about.

Concrete - An unusual Baywalker of the Blighted Grove that has made his home in the area. Some say that he was cast out from Steelbridge for any number of reasons. Now he serves as the Keeper of the Embers for the town.
